Above And Beyond...

Mossel Bay

We drove the 40 miles West along the N2 from our hotel in Wilderness to Mossel Bay as it's one of the larger towns in the area. It's not a pretty town but Blaise Point where the lighthouse is situated was very pleasant and we enjoyed a climb up the cliff and clifftop walk, passing caves occupied by Middle Stone Age people between 170,000 and 40,000 years ago, to walk along the cliff behind the lighthouse. (You can see the cave under the lighthouse.)

The blipfoto shows the lighthouse, cliffs and the outdoor pool belonging to the shark aquarium.

On the drive back we stopped off at the town of George. It's a place I always remember Mrs BB dad telling us it's where, in the RAF, they practised their take off and landings........chased along the runway by Ostriches! The airport is still there but I'm not sure the Ostriches would be now!
