Adventure!

It was a wonderful sunny winter’s day, and mum had cleared her calendar so we go for an outing. Yay! We went to the bird lake. The ice was still thick - mum estimated about ten centimetres - but with two really warm days, it had started to melt and there was water on the ice here and there. Which is relevant to the story. It was beautiful!

We went to our special picnic spot, which is a small bench next to a huge rock right next to the water. Mum wanted to take pictures, of course, and took a step back onto what she thought was frozen seaweed. Big mistake! The seaweed ice was super thin and plonk! her foot sank through and her boot was filled with ice cold water.

We had brought our small gas stove and freeze dried adventurer food - salmon and potato with dill sauce. It took ten minutes to “cook” but it was very tasty. Rupert and Wolf had a good time too. Then we went for a walk along the lake, not a long one because it was very muddy. It was a great outing! Glad I didn’t have to rescue mum...
