exhuming

Remember THOSE TUBS? Well here you can see D using them to store the soil he is digging out to make the holes for the new apple trees. Six holes dug now, and plenty of stones taken out of the ground (and the soil sieved with the metal riddle inherited from Michael).

While excavating the last hole, D came across the corner of a buried blanket and called me into the garden to look. Underneath was a black plastic bag with something inside. I hoped it wasn't human. We decided that we couldn't leave it there so D enlarged the hole until he could pull out the blanket and the bag. We opened the bag so that we could re-bury the remains without the plastic. It was a dog, somebody's pet from before we moved here 20 years ago, now allowed to return to the earth at the edge of the woods in which I'm sure it loved to run free.
