Memorial

A very special day in the life of our small village, Dunscore. I have  written before about Jane Haining, who was born here in 1897 and perished in Auschwitz in 1944. Today, on Holocaust Memorial Day, a service was held in the church, wreaths laid at the memorial cairn and a plaque in her honour unveiled. It was also the official opening of the Dunscore Heritage Centre which tells not only Jane's story but also the history of the church and the village itself. Apparently the Centre is the No 1 Dunscore attraction on TripAdvisor (maybe the only Dunscore attraction on TripAdvisor!).

In the photo are Jane's nephew Rob O'Brien and her niece Deirdre McDowell, who both live in Northern Ireland.

There are a couple of extras and you can read more about the event HERE
