Cutting edge TECHNOLOGY in the 1950s

This is a View-Master Model E made in Bakelite in the 1950s.

Each reel has seven pairs of colour slides, taken with the fairly new Kodachrome film, giving the viewer seven 3D images of various scenes.

The titles of some of the reels show just how old they are with names of countries having changed decades ago.

The manufacturer changed hands many times and today, there is a joint venture with the current owner, Fischer Price via Mattel, and Google to produce a View-Master Virtual Reality viewer, based on virtual reality using smartphones. Some progress.
