Lumberjack 2018

About twenty years ago I planted this coastal pine. It came down today, victim of the pitch pine beetle. I'd been wondering about the globs of pitch it was producing, but it was the arborist who named the culprit. The trees nearby, a dogwood and a hemlock are happy to have the light and space its absence affords them. The birds will miss its boughs.
