What do you do with an old computer? Obviously, the cute little Mac Classic is just sitting around being ornamental but, what about the other, less cute, ones? The old G3 got skipped ages ago. It was just beige and ugly but this one, an old G4 Powermac, has been sitting around waiting. It's not dinky but it's one of those Apple designs that just resists being chucked away. A nice steel case covered polycarbonate panels.

A while back I disemboweled it and today I took off all the panels and drilled out all the rivets that held the internal shelves and drive bays in place leaving a clean, empty box.

I was hours cutting and filling the aluminium panel that filled the space where the drive doors and speaker grille used to be. More aluminium is covering the holes at the back where the PCI cards, USB slots etc lived. Then starting cutting the holes for the little temperature controllers - five of them (although I've only done three so far), one for controlling the temperature of the hot water that  has a beefy 40 amp relay and four little ones for regulating the fermenters. Broke the drive shaft on my Dremel-type thing so had to move on to the jigsaw.

Still much to do - more cutting and then a lot of wiring and soldering.
