White Cliffs

Taking the Calais Dover ferry after the journey from Weinheim.

Looks like it was one of the few times that the sea was calm. Was probably an SNCF French ferry rather than British Rail. Otherwise, they would have been indoors having a proper cuppa.

Mum and Dad with Uncle Jochen in the middle. Not sure if this was his first sighting of the White Cliffs. He had been at my parent's Norfolk wedding in 1953 but probably travelled via Harwich.

Will have to ask him and also find out what he did after the crossing. I can't remember him staying with us for the trip to school in Somerset.
