Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

By NannaK

Greetings from Zambia

This is really thurs october 18th:-).
The Internet is sort of an off and on thing here . So here goes for yesterday...
We took a ferry across the Chobe and Zambezi rivers from where we could see 4 countries all at once! (Zimbabwe Botswana Zambia and Namibia) and then after all the red tape passport control drive to the Livingstone airport and flew in a charter jet to the Royal Zambezi Lodge ( which used to belong to the president) . We were met by an elephant at the front reception and learned how we might avoid any problems with the wild animals around here. ( the one I liked :-) was to hide any pills one takes from the baboons because if they see you popping one they will think it's candy and come get them., any way they can.) We have separate tents ( the only thing tent like is the walls which are canvas...) and ours has a plunge pool. It's the only way to get cool- it's over 40C....HOT. So I was sitting on our little deck in the shade trying to be cool when I watched these 2 elephants on this island right in front of our tent greet each other. (That's zimbabwe across the river with the lush teak trees.)After wrapping their trunks around each other and leaning on the other's forehead, I think they decided they were family or else in love because there was much loving caressing that ensued. These animals are so fascinating. That 's part of the big dilemma- there are more elephants than people in Botswana whose gov't will not allow any culling of the population. South Africa is doing some culling. The balance is wrong and the land won't be able to sustain them. Sad.
Had a fine boat ride on the river for the sunset with drinks in a perfect little island amid many loud hippo calls.
We get escorted to our tents after dark in case we run into any animals. Then we cannot leave our tent til morning light. Bush walk for us at 6:00am.
Hope to post this and catch up.....

Oh dear I see this just posted for Friday the 19 because that's the day on the iPad and I can't seem to impress upon it that it is thurs the 18th. Oh we'll maybe I can fix it with the next one later...
