Norfolk Winter Road Trip!

“Castle Rising Castle is one of the most famous 12th Century castles in England. The stone keep, built in around 1140 AD, is amongst the finest surviving examples of its kind anywhere in the country and, together with the massive surrounding earthworks, ensures that Rising is a castle of national importance... The most famous period in its history was when it came to the mother of Edward III, Queen Isabella, following her part in the murder of her husband Edward II. The castle passed to the Howard family in 1544 and it remains in their hands today, the current owner being a descendant of William D'Albini II, the norman baron who raised the castle.” www.castlerising.co.uk

A sunny morning but a bitter wind as we headed north into Norfolk to the castle and village of Castle Rising. After exploring the castle and Norman church (1st extra), we warmed up in the village’s cosy cafe, before heading on to the Sandringham Estate where we took a scenic drive, and a sneaky peak at the Walled Gardens (2nd extra). By now the clouds had gathered so we made a final stop at Oxburgh Hall (3rd and 4th extras), to checkout the Snowdrops, stroll around the 15th century moated Manor House, and make another cafe stop!

(Another backblip, will catch up eventually...)
