My Grandma

Florence Margaret Green (nee Angell) yes double L at the end.
She was born in 1895 and died in 1920 just 25 years old from tuberculosis.

She left a son and two daughters. Her husband didn't want the eldest daughter because she wasn't his, so at the tender age of 12 she was put into service, as a maid.
He remarried and the other two were not treated very well by their stepmother, they were sent out in a morning and told not to return until bedtime. They slept in the cellar. He didn't seem to care.
Their Aunt Margaret (Florence's elder sister) found out and took the eldest out of service, then got the authorities onto the others, they were put into Dr Bernardo's orphanage and Aunt Maggie  fought their father in the courts to get legal custody of them due to his negligence, it took a long long time, in fact years, but she won in the end.

Aunt Maggie was my mothers step mother, she had one son of her own and she took on grandad's three daughters when she married him, and her sisters 3 children she was an amazing woman and Grandad was an amazing man. They didn't have a lot of money but they raised 7 wonderful people.
Thats how mum and dad met, they grew up together, but it was't until she was 29 that she found she was in love with him and they married.

This is the only photo I have of her.
