Southend

Decided since it is our 36th wedding anniversary that we would have a lazy days spent together.

As the weather was overcast with a bit of drizzle we thought we would go where it seemed brightest. That meant heading south to Campbeltown and then south east to Southend where we had a lovely lunch in the local tearoom. All home cooking and lots of character. Finished off with a delightful slice of cream sponge, which was probably the lightest and best I have ever tasted. Mrs B had the chocolate sponge - equally as good!

We then went for a walk along the beach towards the disused lifeboat station and Dunaverty Rock - on the left of the blip. There once was a castle on the rock which was the site of a massacre in 1647 when 300 MacDonalds surrendered to supporters of Oliver Cromwell and were duly massacred. Little left of the castle now or anything else to suggest such a bloody incident took place in this lovely spot.

Having a special meal at home tonight to finish off our lazy day!

If you go LARGE you might just see the coast of Northern Ireland on the horizon!
