Sticking the Landing

In today's AOG (Alternative Olympic Games), the event is the 90 meter ski sky jump. The squawking blue heron named Jeffrey comes in high, trying to intimidate his competitors.

I want you to notice 2 things about the landing. 1. In the past, he tried the more popular Telemark landing (one foot in front of the other), but returned  to the more traditional Kongsberger landing (both feet together.) 2. In the past, he also tried the V-style of flying (wings forward), but quickly found out he needed his wings out for balance.

What did the judges think? Judge #1 said it best. "Look at the top picture. Oh my. Perfect form. Legs together. Wings together. He puts the blue in bluetiful. But (there's always a but, isn't there?), he loses it on the landing. The left wing is WAY too high, and the feet come apart. I had to mark him down for that."

Despite the flaw...Jeffrey the jumper took the gold in the ski jump, a part of the Olympic Games since 1924.
