San Miguel Mission

This church in Santa Fe is known as the oldest in the United States.  The original church was built around 1610, but it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, most recently in 1887, with another restoration in 1955.  Unfortunately, it was closed so we were unable to go in, but it looked especially interesting in the late afternoon sun against the stormy skies.

We started the day at the much larger St. Francis of Asissi Cathedral then went on to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum where we had a tour with a wonderful docent.  Afterwards, we stopped into the Andrew Smith gallery next door to see some amazing photographs by Jody Forster, with whom I went to high school.  Jody studied with Ansel Adams and has done primarily large format black and white photos of the Southwest.  The gallery also had some of Ansel Adams work, with one costing $400,000. Yikes!

I have started a Flickr Album for this trip, and will post a link whenever I post new pics.
