Eagle of Liberty

Tyrol Eagle: symbol of freedom

To the Romans and Germans, the eagle was a symbol of strength and freedom. The Tyrolean eagle has its origin in the 13th century, in the former coat of arms of the counts of Castle Tyrol (Schloß Tirol) in the city of Merano. The counts dominated the territory from Lake Garda to the town of Kufstein and its coat of arms became the symbol of the Alpine region with the cities of Innsbruck, Bozen, Brixen and Trento.
Santa Catarina is the Brazilian state that most received Tyrolean immigrants (German, Italian and Ladino), who came from Austria between 1875 and 1938. The immigrants made Thirteen Tilias city the "Tirol brasileiro" and this eagle symbolizes their determination in search of freedom , peace and prosperity ".
