The dropped stitch

Eday

A day on Eday.
My first visit to this small island. Heathery. Friendly folk.

I have read that this interesting piece of machinery is a piece of Victorian stone breaking equipment. Don't know if that's true. I just liked it. It was sitting at the side of the road.

Long ferry trip back. The re-fit period at this time of year means the ferry was calling at extra islands before returning to Kirkwall. It seemed to take forever. (nearly 3 hours. Which was 1 more than on the way out).

The 2 ladies sitting alongside me were obviously prepared - one was knitting, another quilting. I wished I'd taken my crochet.
