No More "Thoughts and Prayers" -- Do Something!

After the latest school shooting today here in the United States, in which 17 individuals were killed by a 19-year-old gunman with an AR-15 rifle and plenty of ammunition, the original "Saint Valentine's Day Massacre" has been superseded.

The Washington Post published an updated version of an overview of mass shootings in this country. I found the graphics helpful in trying to comprehend the scope of this ongoing national tragedy. I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of those who read this article are in favor of comprehensive gun control laws, as am I.

Another interesting interactive graphic in the same online newspaper  showed how much money the National Rifle Association donated to members of the U.S. Congress since 1998 -- a total of $4.23 million, nearly all of which was given to Republicans.

The Republican occupant of The White House has tweeted his "prayers and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible Florida shooting".

I also went to the National Rifle Association website. There's no mention of today's tragedy there.

 I didn't linger.
