Journeys to the Little Bay

This afternoon the Rockfield Centre held the finale of the Oban and Lorn Family History Society's series of 'Blethers' on Journeys to the Little Bay, which is where the name of Oban comes from, An Ob, in Gaelic.

These two ladies did an amusing sequence about tourists not understanding the use of passing places on the Isle of Mull, the older lady in English, the younger in Gaelic. The younger lady later played her guitar and sang, as did a young guy. Personally I didn't think he could sing, but at least he tried! It was very hard to get good photographs because of the bright sunlight streaming in the window behind them.

Last night there was an evening of reminiscences about Oban High School and the journeys former pupils had to make to get there, by bus, train or ferry. We went along - it was great, though as incomers we felt we were looking in from the outside to an extent! It showed us what a community there is in Oban - many in the room went to school together.

I think the OALFHS want to do more now to encourage chat about the Old Days!
