Last day in Rome

Our flight home wasn’t until early evening so we decided to walk to one of Rome’s four basilica nearby, Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. The church was built under Pope Sixtus III (432-440). We took a tour under the church and enjoyed wandering around this lovely building for a couple of hours. We then sat outside in the lovely sunshine and had the most expensive ice cream ever ;-(

A bit more wandering around before we collected our bags and headed off to the airport.

Although we both enjoyed exploring Rome and there is still so much more to see that we didn’t get a chance to but I think the events on our first morning certainly put a bit of a dampener on it. Thank you to the lovely Mr C for my Christmas pressie.
