Geological walk in the Peak #2...

...with Helen & Mike...
#1 here
The day started off chilly, damp and muddy as we headed off from Ashton in the Water - not what was forecast at all! Our route took us towards the disused Magpie Mine - used for lead extraction from the 1600s until the 1950s. The extras show some of the route, and the gear at the mine.
Happily the sky did brighten and the rain started to clear as the morning went on, and we could remove a layer or two. Mike pointed out black marble, teracettes and crinoids on the way - and we were suitably appreciative ;)
The main blip is a disused sawmill on the River Wye near Ashford on the return loop. Good to find new places of interest - and Helen cooked us a delicious fish pie when we got back. A grand day out Gromit!
Don't forget to add to the derelict collection when you can for the rest of this month folks ;)
