Ever Hopeful

I went to Kyoto this afternoon to register for tomorrow's morning, still chasing that elusive sub-four. After registering, I tried to find my hotel and gave up and hailed a taxi. The taxi driver couldn't find it either. He was very apologetic and stopped the meter at Y850. Directions from the base couldn't help him find it and eventually, after about fifteen minutes on the phone to the hotel, he did find it. It was a tiny old wooden building with no sign in front down a street not wide enough for a car. No wonder neither of us could find it.

Paella for lunch at a nearby restaurant - I didn't want to walk too far for fear of losing the hotel again - and then an early night, which seemed good until the other guests came in; a French couple with four kids who ran up and down the stairs shouting until almost midnight.
