Friars Vennel

This evening three of our staff and three trainees were invited to dinner at the Zest restaurant and bar at Dumfries and Galloway College. Zest is the training restaurant for Hospitality students and on a Thursday members of the public can book to enjoy a three course meal cooked and served by the students, for £7.50. I had som time between work and the meal, so did the week's food shopping, visited a friend and roamed the streets of Dumfries with my camera.

This street, which runs down from the Burns Statue to the Whitesands, is popularly known as The Vennel. It's Sunday name is Friars Vennel, after the monks at Greyfriars monastery, where Robert the Bruce killed John (Red) Comyn in 1306.
