Sgwarnog: In the Field

Winners

A few hours after my rather bleak write up of Guiseley's form and prospects a week ago, the manager, Paul Cox, was sacked. For the moment the team is being looked after by the most senior player, Sean St Ledger, although he's only been at the club a couple of months himself.

A further defeat followed on Saturday, making seven in a row, but tonight saw a slight change in fortune. AFC Fylde were the visitors, one of the up and coming sides of the non-league world and on a good run of form in their first season in the National League. It was a close game with few clearcut chances, but for once it was Guiseley that came up with a late winning goal. The players earned their post-match winners' huddle, for me it was the first time I'd seen them win all season.

Still bottom of the table, still going to get relegated, but at least a hint that we might get a few respectable performances between now and the end of the season.
