Tranquillity……..

……………………after the Storm

We woke to calm and sunshine this morning. Such a contrast to yesterday when ex-cyclone Gita dumped an excessive amount of rain in the area.

Havoc reined in many parts, particularly in the Riwaka and Golden Bay regions where homes were flooded, bridges damaged and several destructive slips have closed the Takaka Hill Road - the one and only road in and out of Golden Bay.  It will be several days before the road is open to one lane.

States of emergency remain in Taranaki and the Nelson Tasman regions.

Thank you for the comments and stars for yesterday’s double exposure of New Zealand’s endemic cabbage tree.  Maori used cabbage trees as a food, fibre and medicine. The root, stem and top are all edible, a good source of starch and sugar. Check out this link for more fascinating information.
