Referta to Castelejo

I was encouraged by the levada walk last week with PicturePoems and I went with the same organisation on a delightful walk through agricultural landscapes with fabulous views over to the North East.

Because it’s hard to cultivate the land, many of the terraces have been abandoned but here there were some wonderful flowers and vegetables growing in the splendid volcanic soil.

Our guide was excellent, informative, funny and patient. This was “easy”, flat and 6 km. Years ago, this was my very first walk and I’d forgotten just how beautiful it is.
