Sgwarnog: In the Field

Burn

While the campaign to end shooting on Ilkley Moor has finally been won following last month's vote by Bradford Council's not to renew the license, the neighbouring moors are in private hands and so the burning for the shoot continues. This was Bingley Moor ablaze today, as viewed from Baildon Moor.

I'd walked out along Green Lane and onto the moor at Hope Gate, walking past Dobrudden and down to Glovershaw where the Lapwings are starting to return to territory. A visiting Red Kite was being chased away.  A little further along, at Birch Close Lane, a flock of 150+ Golden Plover were mingling with Starlings and a few more Lapwings.

It hadn't been as cold as I was expecting and I was glad I'd stuck to wellies, as the thick winter mud was decidedly unfrozen.
