Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

A glorious fall day, blue sky with large fluffy clouds. Our niece Laura and her husband Eric arrived late yesterday and persuaded us to get up at 4 am to seen the Orionid meteor shower--Eric apparently saw one spectacular meteor before rest of us got out, and it was otherwise just so-so--but fun anyway!

After sleeping late, we drove to the top of Mt. Holyoke, feasting on the glorious colors on the road up, and on the way back home we stopped at our most prolific pumpkin purveyors (in Hadley), who were doing great business ten days before Halloween. On the right you see one of the little red wagons which are available to collect your purchases--view it large.

The most striking photograph of pumpkins that I know is this one by Joel Sternfeld, one of my favorite contemporary American photographers.
