Gritter Banter

“Alright Fred? Brass monkeys ain’t it?” This is the start of a conversation I overheard from my bedroom window this morning as I peered out wondering if the truck might be the recycling collection. It was a surprise to see a gritting lorry in the village and gritting wheelbarrow along the paths. Reassuring to see.

Day 3 of being snowed in and local roads were chaos as accidents followed by road closures multiplied with the wind whipping up causing snow drifts... and chaos.

Starting to go quietly stir crazy and motivation to work hard is not at its strongest. Clients, suppliers and fellow homeworkers are all feeling the same, it would seem, so trying to motivate one another isn’t working either... in the end we just moaned about the weather and state of the roads. Typical Brits!

Checked up on my car late afternoon and she started first time! Let her warm up for a bit to recharge the battery watching the bustle in the village store. Bread, milk, toilet rolls, tea bags and chocolate seem to be the popular purchases.

Paid a visit to my friendly cafe for a latte and met a fellow pilot and his lovely wife. Queue much chat about flying, rebuilding and warmer weather!

A civilised glass of red with the cafe owners as they closed for the day was most welcome. Despite living 40 minutes away they’re staying in the village hotel to ensure the cafe opens each day. The commitment to the community from the business owners is much of what makes it such a lovely village.
