We’re No’ Laughing Now

How we laughed in the face of the threatening Beast of the East- aye, well we’re no’ laughing now!

For the third day, Lothian buses are not running, the schools are closed, shops are closed and any that are open, have empty shelves. It’s a bit like sitting through a looong New Year in Irkutsk, Siberia.

I had a coffee rendezvous with a school friend in the National Library this morning, but guess what, it was shut. Luckily there was a café open 100yds along the road which sheltered us for the duration of our blether. She had managed to travel from the west side of Edinburgh thanks to the trams which continue to run despite the snow on the rails!

The main roads and pavements near the Dower House have been cleared but the small mountains of accumulated cleared snow in the gutters lie as a deterrent in trying to cross the from one side of the road to the other. The trick is to fit into the deep snow footprints filled with slush of the previous pedestrian.
Who needs to have an adventure of walking to the North Pole when we can have the experience right outside our front door.
