The Pocklington Canal - Coates Lock

Today we tried somewhere different and walked along part of the Pocklington Canal from Pocklington to Melbourne.
The Pocklington Canal in East Yorkshire is 9 1/2 miles long, flowing from Canal Head near Pocklington to the River Derwent at East Cottingwith. Like many of our canals it became derelict with the coming of the railways. Recently, considerable restoration work has been done by volunteers and half the canal is currently navigable. The section we walked is currently not navigable, although two of the locks on this section have been restored already. Coates Lock in today's blip is one of them. In today's first extra is Walbut Lock which is currently undergoing restoration. Further on in today's second extra is the remains of Silburn Lock - awaiting restoration.

We didn't see a single boat until we reached the navigable part at Melbourne.
