Always ride bikes

We arrived in Sintra and weren't sure about the parking, so Paul was looking around to ask someone. Two nice guys in a bike rental store opened their door to help, also assuming that we were interested in bikes. We hadn't been, but my new motto is proving to be true: ALWAYS ride bikes if they're available. Today they were extra delightful because they were electric! We charged right up the steep hills to Sintra's sights, including the colorful Pena Palace and the Quinta da Regaleira and its fabuloso gardens / paths / tunnels / grottoes. Here's the Initiatic Well, or inverted tower, supposedly constructed according to Tarot mysticism. All very groovy.

We left there in pouring rain, had some more fun zipping around narrow, cobblestone streets without a clue where we were going, then got reoriented and found a restaurant our bike guy had recommended. (The link to the restaurant switches between photos of Dom Pippa's and the Pena Palace. Not to confuse one with the other!)
