Hodge Close Slate Quarry

The last day of the LPH workshop has come round all too quickly.  With a promise of good weather we headed down to the central Lakes area and Hodge Close Quarry,  one of many slate workings in the Tilberthwaite Valley, between Langdale and Coniston.

Our arrival was met with some rather misty conditions, which allowed for some minimalist images of the beech trees (extra). Once most of the mist had burnt off the site provided views looking towards Lingmoor Fell and the Langdales, along with the detritus of the green slate mining operations, which ceased in the 1960s, and ruined buildings such as in the main picture.
