Great Cormorant

We took the TGV to Rennes today, for a visit with our friends Nine and Didier. In the afternoon we braved showery weather (though warm, perhaps 12˚C) for a walk along water.  This cormorant was apparently drying his wings, occasionally shaking them.  It's the only large cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) in Europe--thus unmistakable. My 40X point-and-shoot registered a distance of 80 meters--I'm glad to have gotten it this sharp.
Our train from Paris made the 350 km (210 miles) in just under an hour-and-a-half (our train from Northampton takes 4 hours to travel the 155 miles to New York).
