Journey Through Time

Calling in the Big Guns

My husband tried to get the maple tree out by himself. He cut off the branches and got it down to a 2' tree stump. Then he began his archeological dig by finding the roots and sawing them in half. He fussed around with that, off and on, and finally he was ready to get it out of there. The neighbor backed his big pickup up to the stump, chains were brought out, and the sheer force of the truck was going to pull out the stump. Wrong. So, THAT didn't work. I said, call the tree guys. Oh, no. So, more fussing around and another try with the truck. This time the chain broke, and luckily nobody was killed. So, THAT didn't work. Finally relenting, he called the tree people, who are close to us, and they drove by to assess the situation. $50 to get it out of there. Wow, what a deal. So, today they showed up and this is the first time I've seen anybody grind up a tree stump. They cut it down as far as they could, and then brought this piece of equipment in, basically a big round spinning saw, and not very long later, there was no tree, only debris, and off they went. Easy peasy. So, lesson learned: don't plant trees this close to the house and driveway. Now, we can start over with something else. One of my favorite photos from this tree is here. Do trees go to heaven?

Hope all is peaceful in your part of the world, Blippers. Catch ya later.
