Sunday morning in Queensgate

After a leisurely start to the day, and a tasty breakfast of bacon, scrambled egg and avocado, Pete and I went into Peterborough to pick up a few last minute things for the Mother's Day meal. We also had a wander round town looking for subjects that might fit the bichromatic EP challenge, but didn't find very much to inspire us. But when I looked closely at this image I realised that it's all in shades of brown and blue - I'm not sure whether it really fits the theme, but I rather like the shapes and textures anyway.

Chris, Lizzy, Ben and Alex all worked hard to produce a splendid evening meal. Alex was in charge of the first course, which comprised bundles of asparagus and mozarella wrapped in prosciutto, grilled and served with a basil oil. It was really yummy. Chris and Lizzy then produced a main course of slow-cooked wild boar with a sauce containing caramelised onions, oranges, red wine, chocolate and paprika. It sounds unusual but was quite delicious. And Ben completed the meal with a wonderfully cardamom scented rhubarb frangipane tart and a dish of spiced oranges. I don't think we could have eaten better at any restaurant, and it was lovely sharing the evening with Lizzy's parents.
