Buildwas power station

It's been one of those days where it is pleasantly difficult to choose which photo to select as the blip of the day. I woke up very early and found it was foggy out, and having fortified myself with a coffee went out for a few hours of wandering around town and the river in the fog as it went from dark to murky to the approximation of daylight that occurs on foggy days. The walk produced lots of blip-worthy photos including the big top of a visiting circus in the Quarry Park. However this photo, taken later on during a visit to Ironbridge, won out. I'm not a huge fan of old and inefficient coal-fired power stations but there is something striking about the cooling towers at Buildwas, sitting incongruously in the green and pleasant surroundings of the Ironbridge Gorge. The terracotta colour of the towers was intended to match the colour of the local soil, and thanks to Wikipedia I've just learned that the 205 metre chimney is the fifth tallest chimney in the UK and the tallest structure in Shropshire.
