Penn State Campus Scene, Very Early Spring

It's March, and you know what that means: the world can't decide if it's winter or spring. A little skiff of snow arrived overnight, just enough to make the ground white, but it didn't last for long.

Spring break week is over, and the buses are back to their regular schedules. Roads that were closed last week are back open again. But things still seem kind of deserted.

The sky was full of those amazingly dramatic clouds you get after snow. The sun would show up, beam brightly, create marvelous tree-shadows, then disappear. Conditions were very interesting, visually speaking, changing from moment to moment.

I love to photograph the orderly array of lamp posts, elms, and benches on central campus. You may see all of those elements in the shot above. When the morning sun shines through at the right angle, it "lights" the lamps.

So: Hello, from Penn State on a fine mid-March morning. I think I'll call this early spring. Why not? The lamps are lit. Come and visit. We'll leave all the lights on for you.  :-)

The soundtrack song: the Beach Boys, with Their Hearts Were Full of Spring. The choice of pants may have been unfortunate in the video, but the harmonies are delightful. Singing begins just before the minute mark.
