Closure

Closure or need for closure are psychological terms that describe the desire or "need" some individuals have for information that will allow them to conclude an issue that had previously (for them at least) been clouded in ambiguity and uncertainty. Upon reaching this conclusion, they are now able to attain a state of epistemic "closure".

It's not easy. First you have to get there physically and then you have to get there psychologically. And there is the journey towards closure; it's not like slamming a door, more like pushing a boulder into place against the entrance to a big cave where too many bad things have happened.

Well sometimes it's like that. Sometimes it's just .... closure.

The blip is two of the staff in the Starbucks near my office, which closed today. How sad is that. I went in and bought one last cheese and marmite panini and a grande americano, white with hot milk, to go, my staple diet on many occasions over the last few years. They had dressed for the occasion and were putting a brave face on it. Gutting.

Ran a workshop on the closure of my organisation this morning. Everyone was brilliant. Talk about professional despite uncertainties about their future; they all contributed and although we identified a lot of risks and issues, it felt more real. There's some real talent and some real commitment in the NHS and you feel privileged to be part of it on days like this.
