MERKINCH HOUSE

Very dull day. Went down to Portland Place in Inverness and walked across the Black Bridge (formal name "Waterloo Bridge") into Merkinch and down Anderton Street. Noted "Thames Fisher" in the harbour. But my chosen blip is this rather dilapidated house in Merkinch's Thornbush Road. This road was once the main North-South road as it leads to the ferry across the Beauly Firth at South Kessock. But the construction of the Kessock Bridge rendered it a bywater. Lots of the houses round here are newish social housing but there are some older properties which were possibly rather grand in their day. Most of the harbour activity is now on the other (east) bank of the river but I think this west bank was possibly more active in former times judging by the presence of several old mooring posts.
