MORVILLE: A Garden in Another Time

Mr T, H, S and I braved the snow and went to Weston Park, Staffs to see the wonderful work of  Maureen Cooper which is being displayed through March in The Granary Art Gallery.  After a light lunch in the delightful Granary Tearoom we went up to the actual gallery and had a good browse round Maureen's work after which she gave us all a talk, and I quote:  Having been captivated by both 'The Morville Hours', by Katherine Swift and the garden itself, the task of expressing the complexity of its ideas, both historical and horticultural, in visual terms became an ongoing preoccupation.  Her photographs, including polaroids, were starting points which developed into digital images, paintings and mixed media work to reflect both the garden's structures and its wildness.

Her work is fascinating, different and made all the more interesting as she explained the process of the finished images.  I shall be ordering a copy of Katherine Swift's book The Morville Hours

Extras:  A piece of the artwork, the bottle chandelier and H's latest crochet creation.

PS  I had Maureen Cooper's express permission to share a photo of her and her work with you!
