The New. And the Old.

The first (astronomical) day of Spring today, and the weather matched the day.

Three bridges.

In the foreground the UK’s newest railway bridge, spanning the Irwell. I think it’s rather fine.

Beyond it one of the world’s oldest railway bridges, and possibly the first one ever crossing a river - designed by George Stephenson to enable this newly invented form of transport to travel from Liverpool to Manchester.

And between the two, a new pedestrian bridge. Public realm works are still going on around it, it is still a work in progress.
