Red soil

After a chatty and uplifting lunch with my friend Ross, I drove west from Sleaford to do some recording in a couple of tetrads. The day had started mild and sunny, but by the afternoon the clouds had welled up, and I was surprised how chilly it felt in the rather strong breeze. The countryside still seems to be in the grip of winter - no signs of green leaves on the hedges and still some snow in shaded ditches! This is a fairly typical arable landscape on the Upper Lincolnshire Limestone, te bedrock that gives the soil its rather wonderful tawny colour.
