Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A very rare visitor.

An Arctic walrus has recently been sighted swimming in the sea off Dunnet Head in Caithness. This is the first Scottish mainland record of the species since 1954. I am afraid  that I don't have a photograph of the walrus and so must make do with one of our Inuit carvings.

Extra. The 1954 sighting was of a walrus on the rocks at Collieston just a couple of miles up the coast from where I live. It was photographed by Dr Bruce Forman a member of the Natural History Department at Aberdeen University.
