Beer Quarry Caves

Today was "Bat Day" at Beer Quarry Caves. The caves are closed for the winter, and don't open to the public until Monday, but they ran the "Bat Day" today for visitors to see the Greater Horseshoe and Lesser Horseshoe Bats that hibernate in the caves for the winter.
It was absolutely fascinating - in several places there were lines of bats hanging on wires and they looked like little black items hanging on a  washing line.
We were asked not to use flash inside the caves as it would disturb the bats, and also not to get too close to them as our body heat could warm them up and wake them. As we had to stay with our guide, there was no way we could use long exposure, so sadly no bat shots.
If you're interested, here's the website which gives all the information about the caves and the bats.
We shall definitely revisit the caves for the normal underground tour (as opposed to the "bat tour") - it's a fascinating place, and is absolutely huge.
