Gently down the stream

Fallen giant

This morning V and I took Hazel and Jax for a walk in Crab Wood.  I'm happy to see that at last primroses are starting to flower there and wood anemones.  Didn't see any violets but they'll be out soon enough and all the bluebell spears are poking up.  As a very old piece of coppiced woodland its spring flowers are wonderful.  However, a lot of woodland management has been going on which may affect it this year.

On our way we saw this huge fallen beech tree.  It had snapped off about a metre from the base.  I wonder how long it's been like this.  Long enough at least to grow plenty of fungi.

In a minute I'm off to make plum crumble (lovely plums at the market right now) but I'll be back a little later, so talk to you then  xx

And thanks to everyone who's entered this week's Still Life challenge.  After tonight it'll be moving on to #SLS19.

Hearts for #SLS18 will be awarded on Wednesday.
