No Walk Smoking

Had a day trip to Shirakawa-go, famous for its traditional farmhouses called gassho-zukuri that were declared a world heritage site in 1995. Until coming back home I thought I had never been to the area; however my parents told me they had taken me there when I was only a toddler.

I spotted this huge sign on the bridge that leads the visitors to the main site. Like this sign there spotted quite a few signs that strictly prohibit smoking while walking. This is probably because of the thatched roofs of the farmhouses, which may catch fire easily. As far as this particular sign concerned, however, it forbids visitors to smoke while walking on the bridge that is quite narrow.
