very poor at the fire

After visiting Shirakawa-go, we also went to Gokayama, a mountainous region that is famous for another village of thatched farmhouses. Both of us much prefer Gokayama to Shirakawa-go as it is quieter and doesn't really look a tourist attraction.

In Gokayama there are two villages of Gassho-zukuri houses and until this day I had only been to one of them. I was surprised to know there was a lift up to the observatory.

Captured this sign that describes the reason for the prohibition as well. Behind the sign you will see what a Gassho-zukuri house looks like.
