KOKAKO

It was a lovely day today for a sail on the Lyttelton Harbour - My friend rang keen to get out also - so we boarded his 30footer which is parked at the new Lyttleton marina and during preparation this hi=uge tanker at the oil wharf was blipped.  I guess the angle of view doesnt show its size but it was made bigger by the fact that the plimsol line was in the red meaning it had yet to be filled. Just amazing how these things bully their way round the seven seas - full of oil !!  Another disaster waiting to happen you might think - well it too is amazing to think of the miles they travel without incident.  Fossal fuels for the future? - well children you better start thinking about it - The name of the ship baffled me a bit - KOKAKO is an endemic New Zealand bird ( only a bout 7oo pairs remain.) maybe the tanker is due for extinction also ??
