My alternative diary

Good Friday

Today has been a cerebral treat and a day of reflection, as well as meeting up with some old friends at “A day with Plato” run by The School of Philosophy, Cambridge.

An extract from Plato’s Crito was used, where Crito is in conversation with Socrates trying to persuade him allow his friends to get him released from prison and thus prevent him being executed. The conversation was explored in small groups and provided much food for thought. Our day ended with Matthew’s account of Jesus in front of Pilate ending with him being given up for crucifixion. The similarities between the two “stories” are remarkable given they were over 400 years apart.

The day was held in a rather splendid former Vicarage built in 1852. My blip for today is a shot of the Church from the sitting room of the former Vicarage. The image is rather flat as it was raining the whole time we were there. It just sneaks into Flower Friday with the daffodils at the edge of the lawn.
