Sleeping Hippos?

D said he'd take me 'Somewhere You've Never Been Before' on his day off, so we went to Tain, down near the mouth of the river. We passed this pond, no idea what these were, but have seen something similar at Chanonry.
Extra: most of the photos I have of him are in this position - binoculars and looking out to sea :))
